![]() ![]() Hear Keys’s new single “So Done” featuring Khalid here. We all experienced a level of changing, or bending, or twisting, and so to just be fully confident, 100 in you, and what you bring, and your you-ness, it’s special, it’s unique, it’s needed, it’s necessary. The artist and producer continues: “We all experience a level of self-doubt. And so I’m definitely so done with thinking that that’s not true, or that you need other things to do things better than you can, or other people to do things better than you can, or other circumstances that might seem better than the one you’re in, whatever the case is.” “That everything I need, everything I’m looking for, everything I’m waiting for, everything I’m wishing for is all in me. “I continue to remind myself just to embrace my ‘me’ fully and completely,” says Keys, who released her memoir More Myself: A Journey last March. The lyrics “I’m so done/guarding my tongue/holding me back/ I’m living the way I want,” beg the question, what she’s done with these days. There’s another element of “So Done” that marries well with how Keys is feeling these days. ![]() And the representing of that, which I just love how that feels,” she says. Keys adds: “It’s a total disruption of the standards. We you choose to be that, and how everybody wants to follow that.” Okay, I realize now That everything that I did was wrong Okay, I realize now Some things are better off said than done Okay, I realize now That maybe Im not ready for love Okay, I realize now I finished us before we begun-un-un Im done, so done Im done with all the games you play Im numb, so numb Im numb to all the pain you bring Im tryna. “We started to talk about this feeling of isolation, and this feeling of when you don’t belong and how, even when you feel like you’re the outcast, how amazing is it when you would reclaim that power. I remember really loving how that felt… this kind of beauty, this chaos, that ruins the beauty,” says Keys. It looked like this beautiful place, but it was super chaotic. “The germ of the idea was Andy and I had worked on another song concept, and he had this kind of crazy visual. The disruption of youthful exuberance is what drew Keys into visuals. But even as her classmates live their best lives, loneliness starts consuming her until chaos erupts in the dancehall. That’s how it happened. The timeless video features actress Sasha Lane ( American Honey) as a slightly awkward teen who walks into prom with hopes of finally fitting in. We happened to have that conversation, and I was talking about my personal circumstances and he was talking about his. We found ourselves in a conversation about being over fixing yourself and changing yourself for other peoples’ benefits. None of us have ever written together before. But it was super amazing. And we also collaborated with Ludwig Göransson, who’s Childish Gambino’s main producer. People were asking, “Can you and Khalid do something together?” and it was already on my mind anyway. We connected, got together - and it’s actually crazy because when I reflect on it, I usually don’t write with people that I don’t know, just because it’s such an intimate space. So I knew that if we did something together, it would definitely have a zone and have a vibe. So I’ve always appreciated that about him, and celebrated him for that. Like, finding people who really stand in their own power, their own zone as a writer, producer and creator. My favorite part about him is that he’s so unafraid to be vulnerable, and to talk about those parts that are maybe not even talked about as much as a young man, as a human and as a person. ![]() Obviously, we’ve had mutual respect for each other for a minute, and I’ve been just super proud of him, because he’s such an individual. How did you and Khalid link up to record “So Done”? In an interview with Billboard ,Alicia was asked I’m living the way that I want (Yeah, yeah-ah woah-oh) (yeah) Got to comfortable didn't see the real side of you And I was sorriest even with your best This is ain't gonna work no more.
